Greece: Violent Political Protests
SOURCE: http://www.safetravel.govt.nz/news/index.shtml#gre
On 5 May three people died in a fire resulting from violence that erupted following political protests in Athens. Political protest action in Greece is likely to continue over coming weeks and has the potential to turn violent.
Strikes can occur at short notice which can cause disruption to public transport in and out of Greece (including air travel). We recommend checking whether your travel insurance will cover you for any travel disruptions and what provisions might apply.
New Zealanders in Greece are strongly advised to avoid all protests and demonstrations, comply with any restrictions and instructions issued by the local authorities and monitor events closely. New Zealanders who find themselves in an area affected by demonstrations or violence should leave the area if it is safe to do so, or if this is not possible, find a safe location, remain indoors and heed any local advice.
New Zealanders in Greece or planning to travel to Greece are encouraged to register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
