Air NZ baggage allowance changes

We would like to remind customers that effective today (Wednesday the 26th of May 2010), Air New Zealand have changed their baggage allowance policy to help streamline their baggage allowances.

The following baggage allowances now apply: 

Domestic New Zealand flights (bookings ticketed before 26 May 2010)

  • Smart Saver - 1 piece (maximum 25 kg)
  • Flexi Plus - 2 pieces (maximum 25kg each)
  • Gold Elite/Gold/Star Gold and Koru Club Members - 1 additional piece (maximum 25kg each)

 

Domestic New Zealand flights (bookings ticketed from 26 May 2010)

  • Smart Saver - 1 piece (maximum 23kg)
  • Flexi Plus - 2 pieces (maximum 23kg each)
  • Gold Elite/Gold/Star Gold and Koru Club Members - 1 additional piece (maximum 23kg each)
  • Any piece of baggage that weighs over 23kgs but less than 32kgs will be subject to a NZ$50 oversize baggage fee if unable to be repacked into another bag (where additional baggage fees will apply).

 

For all Domestic flights:

  • In addition to other allowances, baby strollers and car seats are permitted free of charge provided an infant or child is travelling
  • Medical/life equipment as well as a maximum of two wheel chairs are carried free when accompanied by the person who requires them
  • Separately bagged sports equipment counts as one piece
  • If travellers are on a domestic flight as part of an international ticket, then the international checked baggage allowance applies
  • Baggage over 32kgs will not be accepted

 

Flights between New Zealand and Australia, the Pacific Islands, Asia, Japan or London via Hong Kong (bookings ticketed before 26 May 2010)

  • Economy - 20kg (44lbs) total
  • Business and Premium Economy - 30kg (66lbs) total
  • Star Alliance Gold Customers - an additional 20kg (44lbs)
  • (including Airpoints/Gold/Gold Elite)  

 

Flights to/from the USA, Canada or Tahiti and between New Zealand and London via Los Angeles (bookings ticketed before 26 May 2010)

  • Economy - 2 pieces, max combined weight 46kg (100lbs)
  • Business and Premium Economy - 2 pieces, max combined weight 64kg (140lbs)
  • Star Alliance Gold Customers - 1 additional piece per person
  • (including Airpoints/Gold/Gold Elite)  

 

International Travel (bookings ticketed from 26 May 2010)

  • Economy - 1 piece, max combined weight 23kg (50lbs)
  • Premium Economy - 2 pieces, max weight 23kg (50lbs) per piece
  • Business - 3 pieces, max weight 23kg (50lbs) per piece
  • Star Alliance Gold Customers - 1 additional piece per person, max 23kg
  • (including Airpoints/Gold/Gold Elite) - (maximum 3 pieces)                                                           

 

For ALL flights:

  • The maximum weight limit of 32kg (70lbs) for any individual piece of baggage is an industry standard. It does not relate to your overall entitlement but is a safety measure to reduce injuries to baggage handling staff. Any item over 32kgs will require repacking
  • Each piece of baggage should not exceed total dimensions (length + width + height) of 158cm (62")
