SYDNEY, 22 January 2010: Qantas today re-affirmed its commitment to being Australia’s leader in airline on time performance.

Data released by the Federal Government’s Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) today confirmed Qantas led the industry in on time domestic departures and arrivals in nine months out of 12 in 2009 and also had the lowest overall flight cancellation rate.

Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alan Joyce, said customers could book in the knowledge that a higher percentage of Qantas domestic flights departed and arrived than any other airline.

“A range of factors, including on time performance, network, frequency, product and service combine to determine customer choice when it comes to airline travel,” Mr Joyce said.

“Qantas has traditionally been the market leader in on time performance and we have invested significantly in recent years to retain and maintain this leadership.

“Across the airline – from our Sydney Integrated Operations Centre and our engineers, to our airport employees, pilots and cabin crew – everyone is focused on working together to deliver the very best on time flight experience and continually improving our performance.

“Safety before schedule will always be the Qantas mantra, and weather, airspace and airfield issues will, at times, frustrate airlines and their customers.

“However our customers know that they can book and travel with the confidence that flying with Qantas means they are more likely to depart on time and more likely to arrive on time compared to any other domestic airline, and that our people are totally committed to getting their flight away on time and even have it arrive ahead of schedule.”

Mr Joyce said QantasLink also led its major competitors on departures and arrivals and was equally committed to remaining the market leader among regional airlines.
