Earthquake in Chile - Traveller Update
An 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Chile on 27 February 2010 and aftershocks are possible. The quake was centred near the city of Concepcion 317 kilometres south-west of the capital Santiago.
There are reports of deaths and injuries as a result of the earthquake and damage to infrastructure and buildings close to the epi-centre. Santiago International Airport is currently closed.
There is high risk to your safety in Chile and we advise against all tourist and other non-essential travel until the situation following the earthquake becomes clearer.
Our APX After Hours Team contacted affected travellers in Chile yesterday morning and travel arrangements have been amended wherever neccessary to ensure the safety of all travellers.
If you or one of your employees have travel booked to Santiago in the next month and you have not yet been contacted by us, please contact your designated Consultant as soon as possible to assess your travel arrangements and alternative options.
